The sixth annual Yaoi-Con held last weekend near San Francisco produced an explosion of titles and new licenses that is simply unprecedented in the history of yaoi (boy's love comics created primarily by females for a female audience) manga in America. Digital Manga announced 13 titles for its yaoi -only June imprint including: Love Recipe ( by Hiriki Higashizato ),In the Walnut (by Toko Kawai), Picnic ( Yugi Yamada ), Othello (by Toui Hasami, not to be confused with Del Rey's Othello ), Sweet Whisper ( by Hyouta Fujiyama ), Ordinary Crush ( by Hyouta Fujiyama ),Can't Win With You ( by Yukine Honami and Satosume Takaguchi) ,World's End ( by Eiki Eiki), Words of Devotion (by Keiko Konno), Nakimushi na Little (by Keiko Kinoshita ), Lover's Flat ( by Hyouta Fujiyama) . Invisible Boy ( by Hotaru Odagiri), and Ai no Kusabi ( a series of novels by Reiko Yoshihara, the rest are all manga). DMP also announced it was working on a series of OJEL (original Japanese English language) yaoi manga releases, which would be fashioned by Japanese creators for the American market where they would be published first, before being released in Japan .

At Yaoi-Con Digital Manga also unveiled its 801 Media imprint, which will publish more explicit yaoi titles (just as Tokyopop's Blu imprint does). 801 Media announced seven titles for 2007 including the highly anticipated Love is Like a Hurricane . plus Affair, Bondz (by Toko Kawai), The First Case is Civil Law (by Fumi Yoshinaga), My Paranoid Next Door Neighbor . and Sky Over My Spectacles .

Dramaqueen announced three new yaoi properties at the show: Missing Road (by Sakurai Shushushu), Cage of Thorns (by Sonoko Sakuragawa), and Angel or Devil? (by Uzuki Jun). Yaoi Press, which is about to launch a collection of the online yaoi comic strip Zesty (see 'Yaoi Press Launches YA Line '), has licensed a number of Italian yaoi titles and plans on publishing 15 books in 2007. Meanwhile Central Park Media is set on getting its groundbreaking 'Be Beautiful' imprint into high gear and releasing at least one volume per month during 2007 and Broccoli Books is seriously contemplating the launch of its own yaoi imprint.

So will this prove to be another case of publishers sensing a growing market and then flooding it with too many releases? Maybe not -- Kuo-Yu Liang of Diamond Book Distributors told ICv2 that right now the market is eagerly embracing all yaoi releases, and while a lot of series were announced at Yaoi-Con, DMP and the other publishers still have fairly conservative release schedules at least in terms of the number of new books per month. Still, while all this variety will be great for consumers, at some point the publishers could face lower per-title sales if the growth in the number of releases outpaces the growth of the market.

But another more basic problem could stall the growth of yaoi in the U.S. As more publishers release hardcore explicit yaoi titles as Tokyopop and DMP are doing under their Blu and 801 Media imprints, censorship is like a dark cloud looming on the horizon. There is a reason that Tokyopop and DMP have created these imprints, which are not, at least at this time, even accessible from the parent company's Website. Already some major chains have balked at carrying some of the 18+ rated titles even though they are shrink-wrapped, and while hardcore fans are clamoring for more explicit releases, supplying that market poses definite risks for both publishers and retailers.

Unarmed black woman Rekia Boyd was killed by police. The cop wasn’t charged. So why aren’t we marching for her?

On March 21, 2012, 22-year-old Rekia Boyd was fatally shot in the back of the head.

Chicago Police Detective Dante Servin had been off-duty when, around 1 a.m. he approached a group that included Boyd in his car. After one of the individuals present, 39-year-old Anthony Cross, walked toward Servin holding what the officer thought was a gun, Servin began firing and hit Boyd in the head. She died on March 22, and Servin was subsequently charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, reckless discharge of a weapon and reckless conduct.

On Monday, Cook County Judge Dennis Porter dismissed all charges. Servin left the courtroom, surrounded by family and fellow officers, a free man.

Why you might only be hearing about this now.

General Ma Chao

General Ma Chao:

I'm not surprised really. Men like to look at attractive women wearing and doing things they find hot. It's only logical women would like the same thing. Overall, good article.

Generalizing much?

men

As a homosexual male I'm always severely disappointed to pick up a piece of gay fiction only to discover that it's geared towards women. Not all men like lesbians-- and gay men such as myself don't like the feminine bishounen. Where are the choices for those of us who want a more realistic spin on gay fiction, with masculine characters?

And here's an even more interesting question: Is it more acceptable for a girl to read gay fiction than for a gay male to read it? Probably.

Also important to consider is how the yaoi movement has skewed womens' views of gay men. Girls flock to me to be their best friend expecting me to live up to some feminine stereotype they've gained and be some wonder solution to all their girlish needs. I've actually had girls refer to me as "girlfriend". And these fangirls seemingly always complain that the males in my artwork are masculine. Males shouldn't be masculine?

I find it all pretty offensive. It's even more annoying when other homosexuals perpetuate the stereotypes intentionally.

Hot Anime Men in the Spotlight

Hot Anime Men in the Spotlight

Aug 15 2010

Okay, so the question today is, who is your favorite hot anime guy and why?

Off the top of my head I’m thinking about all the Gundam series, starting with Wing and ending with 00, just because I have yet to find a place that is streaming Gundam Unicorn online (but if I find one, I’ll let y’all know.). In Wing, we have Duo, Heero, Trowa, Quatre and Wufei. I think I like Due and Heero most, of course the dude with the long hair and the silent strong type;) I believe they are my favorite yaoi pairing from this series, too. As far as the Gundam Seeds go, I love Kira and Athrun. Kira is just so… well angsty and Athrun is the sensitive type that I wish more dudes had in them. And then of Gundam 00, my favorites are Neil Dylandy (first only to his twin brother Lyle) and Allelujah Haptism. Setsuna, though very angsty, just seems too young to me and I’m sorry, Tieria is really a girl with a male voice, isn’t he? LOL

This. is Hugue. O.O

man

I could name so many, like Kira and L from Death Note, Ichigo and Renji from Bleach(I just recorded the Bleach movies they showed on Adult Swim last night), Cain, Able and Hugue from Trinity Blood(love, love, Hugue), Hagi from Blood +, Amon from Witch Hunter Robin, Cloud and Vincent from Final Fantasy and Edward Elric and Roy Mustang from FMA (you didn’t think I’d forget them, did you?)  and so on.

Let’s get on to why these characters appeal to us. First and foremost for me, artwork in the anime is of utmost importance. I’m thinking Death Note, Blood Trinity, Final Fantasy and Gundam 00 here. I think everything in these series is beautifully drawn, let alone the characters. And they always have cool hair. What’s up withe free flowing, long and gorgeous hair in anime guys? Why can’t real guys look like that? Oh wait, JRockers pretty much do;) I’ve always liked dudes with long hair and I don’t know why. Maybe someday I’ll have to examine this more with a therapist, LOL. But even when I was a teenager, I always went for the dude with the longest hair and bonus if he had dark hair (black preferable). Of course, I dated a lot of musicians (and still do). Hair is my favorite part to draw when I do my own artwork and notice, not many dudes with short hair.

Moving on, how about how these guy’s bodies are drawn? Even the supposed high schoolers have a body to die for. We’re talking muscled hairless chests, six pack abs and long and lean. This is just my type as well. Not only do I like my men to have long hair, but I prefer them to have more of a lean body – none of this muscle bound, I can’t put my arms all the way down, types. And no, I do not like facial hair or a whole lot of chest hair and too bad. I like what I like and it happens to be just what anime dudes look like. Maybe this is why manga and anime appeal much more to me than Marvel Comics and  American cartoons (that was a whole other blog - “What’s up with American Animation ?”)

With all the short haired, muscled dudes you see on romance novels and such and the types of guys my friends date (uh, that type), it makes me think that my taste is a little, well, eccentric. Or maybe I’m just out of the closet and there are legions of women who don’t really like the culture-driven, spoon-fed types of guys that are on television and romance novel book covers. Maybe there are hordes of us who really, secretly long for dudes who look like Lockon Stratos and Hugue. I mean, Fabio was pretty popular at one point, right? What happened to all those women? Did they all just go back in their closets?

What do you like and why?

Tw mentions of rape pedophilia abuse and sexual assault

Tw mentions of rape, pedophilia, abuse, and sexual assault

yaoi

I’m moving to chanay-please for a bit until I can figure out what I wanna do. I’m sorry, it’s that I started out a yaoi blog and wanted to keep it like that or rather mainly yaoi. But over time I got into different things and learned a lot. I’m stuck, I really wanna blog yaoi but also other stuff. Also people seem to be deceived which results in an influx of followers or a lot of people unfollowing, it’s kinda annoying tbh.

Like I said I wanna blog yaoi and other stuff but honestly it’s hard for me to find time for to blog yaoi. I usually go through the bl tag or some blogs, I pick by art style, and art with sources. I try to avoid abuse, rape, incest, sexual assault, and pedophilia. I do NOT stand any of that and it’s rampant in yaoi works. So it takes me while to find something to suitable.

Also the tags for cakes, chocolate, ice cream, etc. is usually spammed and food blogs come and go. I have a life also and I’m usually sleepy, tired, stressed, or have other things to do. So yeah if you read this thanks and hopefully everyone understands. I’ll be back some of these days.
