Ah, Global BL. BL with origins from outside Japan. Or, as I see it: a mishmash of a marketing scheme and Japanese purism. Love it!

Some part of me believes this has to do with keeping Japanese products exotic. Seriously, doesn't Global BL sound like a cheap knock off of the real thing? But I can't follow that line of thought because I know the phrase came from within my own community. So I'm doubly puzzled since us fujoshi tend to be very accepting of all forms of BL because in the end it's all about the love, baby.

I just can't willing go along with the segregation of a genre based upon the origins of the creator, especially when there is no core distinction between what the Japanese produce and everyone else. Yes, there can be sci-fi BL, western BL, and fantasy BL, but there is no global BL.

Слэш, или, иногда, слеш (от англ. slash, косая черта) — это жанр любительских произведений («фанфиков»), в котором описываются романтические или сексуальные отношения между персонажами одного пола, обычно мужского, взятых из уже созданных известных произведений, и в первоисточнике не имеющих явной гомосексуальной ориентации.[1] Описания подобных отношений двух героинь называются фэм-слэш.

Слэш о реальных людях называется RPS (real person slash). Один из наиболее спорных с точки зрения морали и законности видов фанфикшена.

Сюжет таких произведений чаще всего сосредоточен исключительно на паре персонажей. Название возникло из дисклеймера таких произведений, в которых главные персонажи указываются через «/». Стоит отметить, что эта часть дисклеймера (т. н. «пэйринг») обычно присутствует у всех фанфиков, повествующих о чьей-то любовной связи, не только у слэша.

Как и все фанфики, слэш распределяется по жанрам, рейтингу, фэндомам. Обычно рейтинг слэшу присуждают не ниже PG-13, вне зависимости от содержания.

Существуют несколько специальных обозначений для некоторых видов слеша:

Rare-слэш — слэш по малоизвестному фэндому либо непопулярному пэйрингу.

Твинцест (Twincest) — описание романтических и сексуальных отношений между близнецами.

Чен-слэш — это принудительные действия гомосексуального толка к детям.

Everyone Is Gay (Каждый является геем) — фанфик, в котором всем основным персонажам приписывается нетрадиционная ориентация, без каких-либо объяснений со стороны автора и независимо от того, что говорится по этому поводу в каноне.

Мужская беременность, или Mpreg (Male pregnancy) — слэш-рассказ, в котором, вопреки законам природы, один из героев беременеет.

«Слэшерами» называют авторов слэша. Называют слэшерами и людей, читающих слэш. В России слэшеры часто используют персонажей и сюжеты жанра яой, поэтому яойщицы, косплеящие (переодевшиеся и играющие) мужских персонажей, тоже могут называть себя слэшерами. Также в аниме-сообществе слэшерами могут называть и трансвеститов, и бисексуалов, и даже просто толерантных к сексуальным меньшинствам людей.

В разных фэндомах к слэшу относятся по-разному, от резкого неприятия до восторга. Слэшеры каждого фэндома обычно имеют свои жаргонизмы, обычно это обозначения популярных героев и пэйрингов.

*Sigh* This will be a short post today, as the title summarizes the basic problem currently sabotaging my efforts at writing a senior thesis.

Sorry, guys, life threw me a mixed bag of really good and really shitty in the past bit.

I just had my 8th anniversary of my disability in June and it threw me in a funk. BUT, the saving grace was it happened to be a Monday and that meant I had bellydance class. SharQui's been a HUGE part of my life for over 4 years now, so even though I was feeling crappy, I went to class. I * knew * I would love it while I was there so I hauled up and off I went. Sure I wasn't great (and my turns were especially awful ^^;;;) but I had a fabulous time like I always did. It's really been the major happiness in my life and no matter how bad I feel, SharQui always manages to clear my head and make me smile.

After that, something that's been building for the past few years finally hit a boiling point. Someone who I'd always thought to be one of my two very best friends has been on a weird downward spiral. It'd made for insane headaches, lots of upset, and the loss of a bunch of people I thought where some of my close friends.

All that crap aside, I'm trying to stay busy between SharQui and volunteering at the SPCA. It's kitten-season and we intake from other counties with high-kill rates to save as many as we can. So the more kitties we can get into homes where they'll be properly spoiled and loved, the more we can save from having their lives cut unnecessarily short. Plus, I got certified to go to the hospital and visit the kitties in there who need love while they're waiting for all their medical stuff to be cleared; enough weight gained to be altered; or space to open up for them.

So I apologize for the utter silence coming from my end of things. It's really hard to realize that these relationships I thought were so strong and solid were just empty houses built on sand. I still have genuine friends who've been amazing with helping me through. But it's still been a really crappy run of events and endings I never suspected, and I'm getting my feet back under me.

Welcome Manga Script Format Searchers!

I'll confess, I'm one of those bloggers who checks her stats.  Yeah.  I don't get competitive about it.  There's no doubt that Friskbiskit is, at this point in time, a tiny little backwater station on the Internet.  Nevertheless, I enjoy watching my page views increase month by month.  It's very gratifying to know that something you are doing appeals to other people enough for them to stop by more than once.

Anyway, probably the coolest feature of Typepad's admittedly simplistic stats page is that it tells you where people came to your blog from.  And sometimes it's from the results of a search.  And then you can find out what words people searched on to find you.  It's been fascinating. 

It's exciting to know that people from around the world are visiting Friskbiskit.  Welcome!  (Big wave to the person in the Netherlands who gets here by searching on images of frottage.  You ROCK!)  

And it has come to my attention that many people from around the world land at Friskbiskit in search of information about manga script format.  In a world where Friskbiskit comes up in the top five on such a search, there is clearly a dearth of information on the subject.  So let me do my little bit by offering a brief rundown on the matter.

The most important thing a manga script must do is communicate effectively to the artist what the writer wishes them to draw.  Probably one of the reasons there's not a lot of information out there about manga script format is that there is no set format.  Most writers have their own variations, but they all generally include panel descriptions and dialog, with some sort of typographical convention to distinguish the two from one another, such as showing dialog in all caps.  And each page of your script should correspond to a page of the manga, and be numbered accordingly.  And label your panels clearly so the artist can tell which descriptions and dialog go in panel 1, which go in panel 2, and so on.

Bear in mind that I'm no expert.  I have submitted some scripts to some pro editors and none of them had a beef about my script format, so I feel confident enough on the topic.  All the same, you might want to check out these books for more in-depth information:
